Event details

We have a number of high calibre speakers attending:

Dr Tilo Kunath from Edinburgh University will be talking about his research into the smell of Parkinson’s disease joined by Joy Milne whose personal story inspired the research and Prof Perdita Barran who played a key role in developing the mass spectrometry techniques which underpinned the research.

Dr Latha Velayudhan, Senior Clinical Lecturer, Old Age Psychiatry, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neurosciences, King’s College London and Consultant Psychiatrist will be talking about his clinical research into olfaction as a clinical marker in Alzheimer’s.

Lizzie Ostrom will explore the emerging trend for using ambient scent to create mood and special effects in a variety of settings. The example of pollution pods, created by artist Michael Pinsky, will be used to demonstrate animation of public health issues through scent, the psychological impact of bad air quality and promoting a visceral reaction through the aromas.

We will round up the day with cognitive neuroscientist Professor Keith Wesnes, University of Exeter, and Dr Mark Moss from University of Northumbria who will be presenting research into the effect certain smells have on us through a range of cognitive tests.
